Iconic Fishing Location Gets Facelift

Recfishwest applauds today’s announcement by the State Government which will see an upgrade of fishing facilities as part of the redevelopment of Mandurah’s iconic Old Traffic Bridge.

Recfishwest CEO, Dr Andrew Rowland said the $51.8m project funded by the State Government and the City of Mandurah, will see the construction of a four-lane bridge featuring a pedestrian walkway and new fishing platforms.

“It’s great to see the Government has listened to the views of the community in ensuring the design and construction creates a new bridge that reflects the importance of local culture and recreation.

“The Old Mandurah Traffic Bridge is an iconic WA land based fishing location providing high quality fishing and crabbing opportunities for all in the community.

“Today’s announcement will ensure that this accessible and safe family fishing spot can be enjoyed for generations to come.

“This project recognises the importance of recreational fishing in the Mandurah region and follows behind the recently announced artificial reef development, due to be deployed in local waters this Summer.”

“Each of these developments provide better access to better fishing.” Dr Rowland said.

Recfishwest is the effective voice driving positive change for WA’s recreational fishing community.
