Broome Spanish Mackerel Spearfishing

Sailfish have started to turn up offshore and many local billfish enthusiasts are expected to target the aerobatic sport fish during the upcoming neap tide period. Kurt Williamson managed to land several sailfish south of town during the last set of neaps.

Spanish mackerel are responding well to trolled bibbed minnows and rigged garfish, especially at Grey Shoals. Threadfin salmon continue to be caught in good numbers in Roebuck Bay. Broome Tackle World’s Steve Chambers has been using a variety of methods to entice trevally and queenfish lurking within the local waters. Shore-based fishers have been finding bluenose salmon at Crab Creek and small golden and giant trevally near Entrance Point. Big schools of bony herring at Dampier Creek are attracting bluenose and threadfin salmon to the area.
