Albany pic

Fishing in Albany is fantastic, it is an angler’s playground, with a vast range of options.

Beach fishers can expect to get herring, skippy and whiting at a wide range of spots like Nanarup, the Sand Patch, Bluff Creek, Cheyne’s Beach, Bornholm and Shelley Beach, to name but a few locations. When the salmon are running, all these spots will produce fish at times. Spots like Cosy Corner, Frenchman Bay and Two People’s Bay offer king george whiting from the shore.

The two harbours, Oyster and Princess Royal, offer bread and butter species including herring, skippy, whiting and even blue swimmer crabs. The marina in Princess Royal Harbour is a good spot to try, and also produces squid and even a few big pink snapper. Fishing from a boat in King George Sound produces king george and sand whiting, squid, herring, snook and skippy, as well as salmon and southern bluefin tuna at times.

Heading out wider produces a wide range of species including dhufish, queen, pink and red snapper, samson fish and even hapuka. The many rivers and estuaries of the area are fantastic for black bream, including Nanarup, Torbay and the King and Kalgan rivers. East of Albany, Denmark’s Wilson Inlet is famous for its big flathead and herring, and also produces pink snapper. There are also bream in the Denmark and Hay rivers.
